Journal Entry # 8: IMPACT OF SOCIAL, ECONOMIC, AND POLITICAL ISSUES TO MY SELF

For this journal, I have provided below poems as creative depictions of my chosen issues present in our society nowadays. Also, I used my personal experiences as basis for creating these poems from the social, economic, and political issues I have selected.

Palakasan in COVID-19 Vaccination

Vaccination of the Selected People

Vaccines are our way out of this pandemic; it is a must
It should be made available to all, for it is just
But the vaccination process seems to be not fine
Because if you’re related to someone high-profile, you’ll go first on the line

What will happen now to those who should be first?
To students like me, whom face-to-face classes we thirst?
My learnings will be put to risk; it can already be seen
It feels like I’ll be waiting for a decade to receive a vaccine

To those deserving should vaccination be administered
Not to the authority’s relatives, whose slots were already reserved
We agreed to “No palakasan,” it is for all
But it turned out to be a vaccination of the selected people

Bullying

No to Bullying!

This issue plagued us long enough!
Being oppressed by those who think they’re tough
Bullying can be seen everywhere, not only in schools
Experiencing this could make us feel like we’re nothing but fools

There was a time back then, when I was a bullying victim
I felt so down; I had a low self-esteem
I found it hard to properly study
Since bullying finds its way to bother me

From there I found the motivation to act
Bullying contributes to causing depression; that is a fact
These acts should not be kept continuing
Together, let’s say no to bullying!

Distance learning

Struggles of an Online Learner

It’s time to wake up and go online!
Classes will start in a while; be sure to look sublime!
Indeed, taking a while to rest feels like a sin
For you still have so many tasks to turn in

There’s no actual learning at home studying
For there are so many things that are quite distracting
In some cases, a home is not fit for learning
Just like me who, because of slow internet, finds trouble connecting

Face-to-face classes must be resumed as soon as possible
Physical learning must soon be available
Distance learning is not for the many
It feels like studying nowadays require a lot of money

Pollution

A Walk Along our Streets

Let’s have a walk along the streets of our barangay
Where plans and ordinances of cleanliness and discipline seem to have gone awry
Garbage can be seen on the side;
Some are unseen, floating under the canals where they hide

As a citizen I feel ashamed of what I’m seeing
I can’t stand the scent of garbage I’m smelling
We often complain of frequent flooding
Without knowing that our canals are clogged; hence, we should be doing something!

Now is the perfect time to start
To take care and preserve this wonderful art
Improper waste disposal we should never repeat
In order to have a better experience walking along our streets

Government Corruption

How the Road Came to be

Once there was a project implemented in our barangay
To build a road so vehicles may come and pass by
They began working on it; they finished after just a while
But months later, cracks and holes showed up and are stretched for over a mile

Now, having to ride along the road is a burden
Bumpy and shaky, I might even get hurt; that's certain!
It explains why walking is what I prefer
'Cause the road didn't last long; it failed to serve for the better

I asked my father why that happened
He said "It seems that funds have been corrupted
Substandard materials were used; kickbacks have been kept
And we, citizens, will suffer from the consequences of this theft."
