Journal Entry # 6: LETTER TO MY 14-YEAR OLD SELF
Dear 14-year old me,
It’s been a while since I’ve taken a look back at you! Now, I
have lots and lots of stuff to tell you about!
Remember the time you got bullied
because of the pimples and acnes on your face? Or how about that instance where
everyone teased you for having a big butt? I saw how your self-esteem had been
affected by all these things and how it led you to become ashamed of your own
body. I really can’t blame you for that. Body image dissatisfaction had plagued
you for a long time. But worry no more! I’m here to tell you that I have now
learned to accept these things in a positive way. Don’t fret on those pimples! Through
body adornment, like how I use facial wash for men, they will cease to multiply
until you achieve a smooth-looking face like what I have now. Still thinking
about what other people would say to your big butt? Don’t mind them! Just think
of your butt as a blessing from God and an instrument of joy and laughter to others.
Oh! I also remembered that you often
feel depressed because people always label you as gay; it always boggles your
mind to hear judgments from others based on your actions and how it should
conform to the norms of the society. I’m here to tell you that the way you act
has nothing to do with how you should perceive your gender. I know you’re not
gay! What matters is you know your gender identity. Now, I feel free to act and
express myself because I ignore those stereotypes!
Remember these things I have told
you. I will now continue to explore our “self” and discover more from it!
