Journal Entry # 3: MY STRONGEST SOCIAL INTEGRATION

Grade 10-Wisdom (A.Y. 2018-2019)

I consider those people seen on the image above as my greatest social integration. Maybe it's because of the fact that some of these people were my classmates since Pre-Elementary up to Grade 10, while others were my classmates since entering high school. But I know it's more than that; more than just a bunch of students competing to become top of the class.

They changed the way I view a typical classroom: to be a battleground of students seeking triumph over the rest. That's how I see a classroom back then and that probably was the reason why I had little or no friends at all. But that perspective changed as years of being with them go by. This group I belong to have shaped my perspective in life; that it is not about competing but helping each other.

I am a witness of how these persons showed care, concern, and love towards each other. We viewed each other not only as classmates but also as siblings (family members). Each one of us fulfills the obligation of a brother/sister/family member to another; a social fact that we perform, externally to ourselves and our actions, in accordance to the customs and norms.

I agree to Emile Durkheim's argument that society indeed molds our own actions. Now, I am very much delighted to have this social integration with these people; they have contributed to my realizations of the self - that the society we interact in creates an impact to ourselves

What I am willing to do or sacrifice for them

I am very much willing to sacrifice my time and priorities just to be with them. I consider time with them as "gold," and a worthwhile moment of my life. Just being with them and interacting with them is more than enough to complete my day (maybe more than enough to complete my whole week, hahaha!)

I can also set aside priorities in life for them, since I've mentioned that time with them is "gold," thus, considered to be a priority as well.

I came to realize that I am willing to do or sacrifice these things for them because of the bond I have for them; the level of social solidarity we have together. We have a strong social tie which binds our group together.
